Our Story.
Karratha Physiotherapy was designed specifically with you in mind. During the crisis, luxury was hard to come by. In the Pilbara this was just another day exacerbated by further impacts to and already transient workforce. Lifestyles are massively impacted by the beautiful rosters and long work days we all keep.We all deserve a little luxury in life whether that be more space and time, more privacy or just a beautiful space to relax and unwind. We also deserve a high quality service. It was an experience very close to home. The issues around access to healthcare rurally, long wait times, delays in treatment, poorer outcomes, heavy reliance on RFDS (Royal Flying Doctors Services) and seeking services a half days drive or flight away. Regular practitioners were hard to come by and behind the scenes we were slammed! The health system felt like the sickness system, like by design it was making people feel worse or focusing on the problems without addressing the solutions. Consult times and appointments were getting shorter and shorter, putting everyone at risk of burnout. Out of necessity for a decent break post pandemic Karratha Physiotherapy was born.

Georgie has a degree in both Exercise Physiology (UniSA) and Physiotherapy (Curtin University, WA), which she pursued after her sporting career ended (swimming, surf lifesaving, and water-polo). This sparked her passion for health and rehabilitation. While studying at UniSA she continued her passions swimming instruction, coaching and assessment of elite athletes. She gained qualifications in Gym Instruction, Aqua-aerobics, Personal Training and Massage Therapy alongside work and study.
After the first degree she moved to Perth and it was during her Physiotherapy studies the iron ore found her veins and in 2012 while working within Health and the Mining Sector out at Wickham, she fell in love with the Pilbara, made friends and continued seeking opportunities to take rural placements, one of which, was at Population Health right here in Nikol, WA!
She has lived and worked in the Pilbara for over 10 years and recently relocated from Port Hedland. Her focus rurally is to ensure adequate health provision regardless of location and advocate for her clients, patients and community. Her additional training as a rural generalist is in Aquatic Physiotherapy, Lymphedema, Yoga Instruction, Pilates and Dry Needling. Georgie has been working with Sport and Musculoskeletal injuries for over a decade, has experience in and not limited to, Elite Sporting Performance, Ergonomic Assessment, Post-operative Rehabilitation, Manual Handling, Indigenous Health, Workers Compensation, Stroke, Vestibular Conditions, Acquired Brain Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents and Spinal Cord Injury.
Familiar with burnout and stress combined with her knowledge of physiology Georgie has a deep understanding of the body and incorporates holistic techniques into her practice including yoga, meditation and breath work to provide you with a deeper understanding to the underlying physiological drivers behind your pain and experience.
Outside of Physiotherapy she is an Artist and participates in the Cossack Art Awards regularly. She plays Waterpolo for the Barracudas here in Karratha, and competes in Bodybuilding. She loves her gym so much she on occasion works as a Personal Trainer there, because "rehabilitation doesn't finish with getting back to normal, she is invested in seeing you reach your goals. While she loves sport and art, its the outdoors, the ocean and the beautiful people in our community that spark her passion for rural healthcare!
